ALL MPs, including parliamentary staff, who have undergone mandatory health screenings are free of the Covid-19 virus, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The health director-general said full test results will be known in a few days time.

“Some 750 people, including MPs and parliamemtary staff, were screened and so far, no one is positive.

“We will be doing the test for another two days and the results will be known soon,” Noor Hisham told his daily Covid-19 press conference.

Ahead of Monday’s parliamentary sitting, lawmakers have been going for Covid-19 screening since Thursday.

DAP’s Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng said MPs were told that they can get tested via a drive-thru service from 9am to 3pm.

“Because it’s drive-thru, there is no need to wait for a long time. I got there at 9am but there were four other cars ahead of me,” Lim told The Malaysian Insight.

With the Health Ministry preparing five testing stations, it is unlikely lawmakers have to wait long for their samples to be taken.

On April 28, then Dewan Rakyat secretary Riduan Rahmat had, in a letter to all MPs, said that they are required to get tested for Covid-19 before being allowed to attend the upcoming one-day Parliament sitting on May 18.

The Dewan Rakyat was supposed to meet on March 9, but this was postponed until May 18 following the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan government in February.
