THOSE flouting the government’s ban on interstate travel will be slapped with a RM1,000 compound, said Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
The senior minister said they had little choice but to impose this penalty as many are trying to return to their home town ahead of Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
“Yesterday, 500 vehicles were stopped and asked to turn back. They tried to ‘balik kampung’ for Hari Raya.
“The police are still using their discretion but in today’s meeting, we decided that the police can now issue the compound to offenders,” he told his daily press briefing on Covid-19 today.
Ismail Sabri said police yesterday checked 238,250 vehicles at highways nationwide.
Ismail said police arrested 72 people yesterday for flouting CMCO rules.
He said 60 people were remanded while the rest are on police bail.
Ismail said police have set up 146 roadblocks nationwide to monitor interstate travel. – May 16, 2020.
