THE waivers proposed by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) are without precedent and may run into legal issues.

Registrar of Societies (RoS) director-general Surayati Ibrahim said would need a week to scrutinise the proposed waivers and will have to refer to legal advisers.

“There are many waivers proposed. I am not sure whether the Societies Act 1966 empowers the RoS to allow the waivers sought by the party,” she said in Johor Baru today.

Surayati said the proposed waivers included how to hold an annual general meeting and how to amend the party’s constitution.

“So, I am not sure whether the RoS can allow such waivers. This is because Bersatu wants to waiver something in the party’s constitution.

“The RoS does its job in accordance with the law. An organisation should abide by its own constitution and the Societies Act 1966,” she said after attending a cheque presentation ceremony for the Johor Residents Association officiated by Deputy Home Minister Nur Jazlan Mohamed at Kompleks Tan Sri Mohamed Rahmat.

The RoS could deregister Bersatu if it fails to resolve its internal issues and hold its annual general meeting, which it should have held by September.

The party’s failure to hold the meeting was due to problems involving its branches and divisions. – Bernama, November 25, 2017.
