THE Perikatan Nasional ruling pact is not in a rush to register itself as a political entity, said Barisan Nasional secretary-general Annuar Musa today.
He said there were ongoing discussions on the matter but for now, Perikatan remains a harmonious coalition entrusted with managing the country during this critical time.
PN comprises Bersatu, PAS and BN, and is supported by Sarawak ruling pact GPS.
Annuar also said that, for now, it was not possible to register Perikatan as a political entity as there is a process that needs to be followed.
“The decision cannot be made by the top leadership but should also engage all levels of party hierarchy before proceeding with registration,” said Annuar, who is also Federal Territories minister.
“However, we have to keep in mind that this is a timely process as each party has its own procedures.”
The Perikatan government was formed after it claimed to have majority support in March following the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan administration.
Previously, Umno, which is the mainstay in BN, had said the Perikatan pact was only temporary as the party may decide to go with other alliances in the next general election.
Last year, Umno and PAS had forged an alliance to cooperate under their muafakat nasional banner. – May 14, 2020.
