Leave on good terms, Anwar tells Kedah defectors

IT is better for party leaders to exit in a good and democratic way without causing any enmity and betrayal, said PKR president Anwar Ibrahim today.

He was responding to the recent exits of two Kedah PKR assemblymen who defected to support Perikatan Nasional.

This led to a loss of support for Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir, paving the way for PN to take over the state.

“It is not wrong if they had previously supported anyone or leadership. It is not wrong to criticise the president.

“But it is not acceptable for them to betray by remaining in the party and supporting another party. What more if they support treachery,” he said in a Facebook Live session.

“So, I suggest they exit on good terms and democratically. There is no need to fight and become enemies.”

The Kedah issue has been ongoing for a year as the two representatives have not been cooperative and skipped party meetings.

Anwar said he does not hold grudges against them.

Anwar also dismissed notions of personal animosity with Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

“I think we have to have humanity and maintain a decorum. When I said decorum, I meant we should keep to the promises we made. If not we should explain and apologise,” he added. – May 14, 2020.
