THE decision to limit the order of business in the upcoming Dewan Rakyat sitting can be due to the government’s lack of confidence in the support it commands, said opposition leader and PKR president Anwar Ibrahim.

He said the sitting can proceed with the usual order of business as Parliament staff members have made the relevant seating arrangements that adhere to social distancing guidelines.

He, however, added there is a possibility that the Perikatan Nasional government is not confident of the support it has at this juncture.

“I believe there is a possibility the government does not have the confidence to get support in Parliament,” he said in a Facebook session today.

The royal address will be the only agenda in the one-day Dewan Rakyat sitting on May 18.

He said there is a possibility of MPs switching loyalties to vie for positions as ministers and heads of government linked companies.

“The political world is like a frog, not (guided by) principles and values.”

However, he said the Pakatan Harapan-led opposition, is against attempts to disrupt the royal address as rules and the institution should respected.

Meanwhile, Anwar reaffirmed that he was chosen as the opposition and Pakatan Harapan (PH) president on a consensus, although there were attempts to challenge that decision.

“I believe because PH wants to preserve the spirit of its manifesto and idealism.”

Anwar said he had supported Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s leadership in 2018, to strengthen the opposition faction and given that he was still serving his prison sentence at the time. – May 14, 2020.

  • This is a self elect govt. The King already mentioned right from beginning the parliament is the platform to determine a deserving PM with majority support but many voices said King must make a choice based on the Constitution right. So what happen now if the PM does not allow the parliament to move a motion vote of no confidence? Now leave it to MPs to battle out in Parliament lah. No eye see.

  • First world parliament like the UK, Australia, New Zealand and singapore sit during the Covid-19 lick down. Our third third world parliament is too scared to convene sitting as those back door MPs are too busy queueing up for GLCs appointment.
