CIVIL servants and people working in essential services no longer need to apply for the inter-district travel permit from the police if they have official duties in adjacent districts.

They only need to show their department pass or a letter of instruction from their department, Deputy Chief Minister Douglas Uggah said today when announcing further relaxations to the conditional movement control (CMCO) in the state.

As examples, he said people may typically travel between Kuching and Samarahan, Serian, or Bau.

Inter-district travel was imposed last month as a measure to curb the transmission of the Covid-19.

However, other people who wish to cross district lines are still required to apply for a permit from the police, said Uggah, who is also chairman of the state Disaster Management Committee.

At the state’s daily press conference of Covid-19 today, he also said Sarawak would follow the national policy limiting celebrations for Hari Raya and Gawak to the first day only, with maximum number of people allowed to visit each home limited to 20 close relations only.

“Whether you celebrate Hari Raya or Gawai, we have to set some restrictions. These are abnormal times,” he said. – May 13, 2020.
