PAKATAN Harapan (PH) will challenge the legitimacy of the appointments of the state assembly speaker and his deputy.

Malacca PH chairman Adly Zahari said the “legitimate” speaker and deputy speaker, Omar Jaafar and Dr Wong Fort Pin, respectively, will soon file an originating summons to challenge the appointments.

Perikatan Nasional members, led by Idris Haron (BN-Sungai Udang), caused an uproar yesterday at the state assembly when they proposed that Omar be replaced with a member of the coalition.

Malacca Umno liaison committee chairman Ab Rauf Yusoh was subsequently named the new speaker after the proposal was passed with the approval of 16 of the 28 assemblymen.
