MALAYSIA recorded 54 new Covid-19 cases today, of which 45 involved foreigners, Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham said.
There was also one death which brought the total of fatalities to 108.
There are now 6,589 infections recorded in the country.
He said one of the new cases was imported while the rest were local transmissions.
Three of the locally transmitted cases were detected at enhanced movement control order (EMCO) areas.
Sixty-five Covid-19 patients have recovered and were discharged from the hospital, bringing the total number of recoveries to 4,929.
The deceased was a 74-year-old man who had a history of chronic illnesses, including autoimmune disease, high blood pressure and thyroid.
He was also a close contact of a case linked to the tabligh cluster. He was treated at Malacca Hospital and died at 11.23pm yesterday.
As of noon today, 28 new cases were detected in the Pedas cluster, bringing the total number of infections to 88.
Noor Hisham said 81 of the 88 cases involved foreigners.
He said 33 of the foreigners were Nepalese, 26 Bangladeshis, 11 Indonesians and 11 Myanmars.
The source of infection is still being investigated, he added.
