MOHD Shafie Apdal has confirmed writing a letter to the Dewan Rakyat speaker seeking a motion to show former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad enjoys majority support among lawmakers.

The Semporna MP told reporters in Sandakan today that he penned the letter dated May 1, and will speak more on the matter at a more appropriate time.

Asked by the media about the letter, he said “it is there”, and when pressed for details, he only replied “ya, ya”.

Earlier today, a copy of the letter was circulated on social media.

In it, Shafie, who is also Sabah chief minister, sought Speaker Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof’s nod for a motion and resolution on the matter during Parliament’s one-day sitting on May 18.

Ariff confirmed receiving the letter, and said a statement will be issued tomorrow.

The move, if allowed and passed, would indirectly be a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin. – May 7, 2020.
