KERETAPI Tanah Melayu Bhd has denied an allegation on social media that it is not enforcing social distancing on its Komuter trains.

Strategic communications head Ahmad Asri Khalbi said the higher passenger density during the trip from Port Klang to Tg Malim on Monday was due to technical problems forcing the use of a three-coach train instead of one with six coaches.

“We have already put in place social-distancing markers. In the incident mentioned in the post that went viral… initially, we planned a six-coach train, but at the last minute, because of technical problems, we had to change to a train with only three coaches.

“In terms of capacity, obviously it is smaller. People were rushing to work, so they still boarded the train.

“Stickers indicating social distancing were placed both outside and inside the train, but perhaps, because of the rush, they were not followed,” he told Bernama today.

He said only that one trip was affected. – Bernama, May 6, 2020.

  • One trip is enough to infect all the passengers in the packed coach. KTM should be charged and pay the penalty including all costs associated with any infection caused.
