45 Covid-19 infections, one death reported

MALAYSIA recorded 45 new Covid-19 infections today in the last 24 hours, and all but one were local transmissions.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this brought the country’s total number of infections to 6,428.

Of the 44 local transmissions, one was detected from a cluster in a locality under an enhance movement control order (EMCO), but he did not state which area.

One death was also recorded, of a 51-year-old Malaysian man who had a history of diabetes, kidney disease and high blood pressure.

He was warded at the Sungai Buloh Hospital on April 22 and died yesterday, putting the country’s total number of deaths at 107.

One hundred and thirty-five people have been discharged today, bringing the total of recoveries to 4,702. There are now 1,619 active Covid-19 cases.

The capacity of healthcare facilities to manage infections has also been greatly relieved, with only 22 Covid-19 patients in intensive care, with nine of them on ventilators, Dr Noor Hisham added. – May 6, 2020.
