NEW local Covid-19 infections today at 70 are higher than imported cases at 52.
Today’s 122 new infections brings the total number of Covid-19 cases in the country to 6,298.
This is the second day of a return to triple-digit cases after 105 new cases were reported yesterday, following 15 days of double-digits.
In announcing the figures today, Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also said 87 patients have been discharged, and two deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.
The deaths of two Malaysian men, which bring the total number of fatalities in the country to 105, were of an 82-year-old with a history of hypertension and heart disease, and a 64-year-old with diabetes, hypertension and kidney disease.
The total number of people discharged is 4,413, and including deaths, the current number of active cases is 1,780.
Yesterday, of the 105 new cases reported, 94 involved local transmissions.
Noor Hisham, however, has said that healthcare facilities are now able to cope should there be new infections after flattening the curve.
As of today, 27 positive patients are being treated in ICU, of which 13 require ventilators. – May 3, 2020.
