INSPECTOR Hazrul Hizham Ghazali claimed trial at the Petaling Jaya Sessions Court to raping two Mongolian women whom he allegedly picked up at a roadblock three weeks ago.
The women were allegedly raped multiple times in separate rooms at the PJ Luxe Boutique Hotel on April 11 after they were picked up a day earlier.
The 30-year-old accused pleaded not guilty to six counts of rape of a 20-year-old Mongolian.
Hazrul is further charged with molesting the same woman in a tent by the roadblock at the New Pantai Expressway (NPE), Petaling Jaya Selatan 2 (PJS2) toll plaza.
He is further charged with two counts of raping the second woman, a 36-year-old Mongolian.
Justice Norshila Kamaruddin set bail at RM27,000, or RM3,000 per charge and fixed June 2 for case management.
Hazrul, dressed in a blue T-shirt and jeans, did not speak to the media. He wore a mask, as did everyone else in the courtroom.
Aside from two reporters, the media was not allowed to sit in the public gallery because of social-distancing rules.
Hazrul was represented by Shah Rizal Abdul Manan and co-defence counsel Nik Muammer Hurrie Mohamad Sukri.
Deputy public prosecutor Mohd Asnawi Abu Hanipah did not offer bail, arguing that the accused may use his influence to harass the victims.
“We said that was not possible as the victims are currently under protection,” Nik Hurrie told reporters after the proceeding.
Yesterday, Hazrul also claimed trial at the Klang Sessions Court to two charges of trafficking and sexually exploiting the same two women.
For that case, bail was set at RM20,000 with June 17 fixed for case management.
Police rescued the women from the PJ hotel on April 11 and Hazrul was detained for seven days to facilitate investigations. – April 30, 2020.
