THE Welfare Department has distributed 336,916 food baskets to 1.34 million households during the movement-control order (MCO) period, said its director-general.

“This does not include contributions from civil society organisations, the private sector, individuals and others,” said Zulkifli Ismail in a statement today.

He said the department is working with the Civil Defence Force and Rela on coordinating and distributing the aid.

The food baskets are bought with funds from the Finance Ministry and Covid-19 Fund, he said.

“They will continue throughout the MCO period.”

He added that anyone in need of aid can contact the department at 03-8323-1996, head to the nearest department office, or call the Talian Kasih hotline at 15999.

Among the items in the baskets are rice, cooking oil, sugar, flour, condensed milk, salt, vermicelli, salted fish, anchovies, soy sauce, chilli sauce, sardines, tea, coffee, biscuits and spices.

Zulkifli said the department checks contributions from other parties and distributes them to the needy. – Bernama, April 28, 2020.

  • Its easy to say so many food baskets have been delivered. Did the baskets actually reach the designated receipients or went somewhere else? Have they checked to confirm if all the food baskets given out have all the items in there? Investigate the MPs claims that the baskets have not been delivered to them. Talk is cheap without any proof.

  • Now I understand why the Batu assemblyman got booted out from the operation room cause its not that transparent after all, say what you want we just don't have an ounce of confident in what you say and Pak Din says he is the PM for all Malaysian and this happens under your watch.
