THE enhanced-movement control order (EMCO) for Hulu Langat will be extended another week, said Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

“The EMCO for Sg Lui, Hulu Langat, that involves a tahfiz centre will be extended till May 5,” the senior minister in charge of defence told a daily briefing on Covid-19 safety measures in Putrajaya today.

He said the lockdown imposed on Kg Dato Ibrahim Majid and Bandar Baharu Dato Ibrahim Majid in Simpang Renggam will end tomorrow.

He did not give reasons for the extension in Hulu Langat, which was placed under the EMCO on March 29 after 19 tahfiz students there tested positive for the coronavirus.

Simpang Renggam was locked down on March 26 after 61 residents tested positive.

Meanwhile, 1,128 private and public university students will begin the journey back to their hometowns today, said Ismail Sabri.

“A total of 863 students will be taken from the central zone to the northern zone tonight, while 265 will be sent from the northern area to the central zone tomorrow.”

The process will involve 49 buses from nine universities, and 17 destinations, he said.

“The buses and students’ luggage will be sanitised three hours before departure.”

He added that the government will organise Sabah and Sarawak students’ return to their home states starting May 1.

Last week, Putrajaya said some students who have been stranded on campuses nationwide since the MCO took effect on March 18 will be allowed to go home.

This involves only those whose campuses are in green zones – areas without Covid-19 cases – and whose homes are also in such zones. – April 27, 2020.
