POLICE have received about 300,000 applications for interstate travel permit under the movement control prder (MCO) via the Gerak Malaysia app in just 12 hours.

Bukit Aman CID director Huzir Mohamed said from the total, 100,000 individuals are applying to travel after being stranded in their home towns as they could not return home following the start of the MCO.

“The figure is expected to double by May 1.

“It is very important for police to ensure each application received is only for permitted purposes so that plans for interstate movement will proceed smoothly,” he said in a statement today.

He said during the stipulated period, police will monitor and evaluate the applications received via the app.

He said they will inform the government of their findings so that dates when people will be allowed to travel can be coordinated accordingly.

Huzir also advised the people to cooperate by applying to obtain the travel permit with valid reasons.

“Further developments on the interstate schedule will be announced later.”

Earlier today, Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob had said those stuck in their home towns could not yet travel on May 1.

On Wednesday, Ismail had announced that members of the public stranded in their villages before the MCO could apply to return to their homes. – Bernama, April 26, 2020.
