THE police and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) have opened 237 investigation papers into cases of fake news about the Covid-19 virus, said Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
The senior minister said today 169 cases are still under investigation while 24 cases have been brought to court, with 13 individuals pleading guilty and 11 given warnings.
“Until April 22, 237 investigation papers have been opened. The MCMC is still probing into 169 cases.
“Twenty-four cases are already in court. Thirteen people have pleaded guilty and 11 individuals received warning notices,” he told his daily press conference.
Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said since March 18, 17,735 individuals have been detained for breaching the movement control order, of which 1,236 have been charged in court.
The police arrested 865 people yesterday for violating the restriction order, with 732 being remanded and 133 released on bail.
“Overall, we have arrested more than 17,000 people. Yesterday alone, 865 people were detained, with 732 remanded and 133 released on bail.
“The police conducted 835 roadblocks nationwide and inspected 609,411 vehicles,” he added. β April 22, 2020.
