THE Penang Island City Council (MBPP) will study the proposal of several nasi kandar restaurant operators on the island to carry out food delivery services for sahur under the movement-control order (MCO).

Mayor Yew Tung Seang said the council will consider carefully the need for restaurant operators to operate at that time.

“The MBPP will first discuss with the authorities, such as the police, whether the proposal can be adopted during the MCO,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.

Earlier, Indian Muslim Community Organisation of Malaysia president Mohd Rizwan Abdul Ghafoor Khan called on the MBPP to consider the proposal as it was concerned about the plight of factory workers working late at night and those unable to go out to buy food due to the MCO.

“We hope we can be allowed to operate for three hours for pre-dawn meals from 2.30 to 5.30am,” he said, adding that they would be using the Mr Runner online food delivery service, to be launched this week and will be available on Google Apps Store.

He said the proposal was also to assist frontline personnel, especially those working late at night, to make food orders if they had difficulty getting food supplies for their pre-dawn meals. – Bernama, April 20, 2020.
