MALAYSIA wants to bring down daily Covid-19 cases to the single digits, said Director-General of Health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, stressing that the country has neither won nor lost the war against the virus.
“The war has not yet been won, and neither have we lost. But, we have made significant improvements in terms of reducing cases,” he told a daily press conference on the coronavirus in Putrajaya today.
Measures taken under the first two phases of the movement-control order (MCO) will have to continue to decrease fresh infections, he said.
The country today reported a significantly low number of new cases at 36 with no fatalities.
“But we want to achieve single digits. Maybe we can achieve this within one week,” said Dr Noor Hisham.
“All of us need to work together and make sure we continue to stay home even when the MCO has been lifted.”
He told Malaysians not to get too comfortable with the reduction in new cases, and reminded them to continue following MCO rules, including social distancing, and practise good hygiene.
On Kuala Lumpur’s Lembah Pantai, which has registered the highest number of Covid-19 infections for more than two weeks, he said a few places in the densely populated area are already under the enhanced MCO. – April 20, 2020.
