MALAYSIA recorded only 54 new Covid-19 infections today, the lowest since the movement control order began and the second consecutive day the number remained in double digits.
Recoveries continued to exceed new cases, at 135 , bringing the number of total patients who have been discharged to 3,102, or 58.5% of total cases, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
“The new infections reported in the last 24 hours take the number of coronavirus cases in the country to 5,305,” said the Health director-general during his daily press conference today.
He said 49 positive cases were in intensive care units and 26 patients were on respirators.
He said two patients had died from the Covid-19 virus over the last 24 hours.
With the two deaths, the number of people who have succumbed to the virus stands at 88.
The two fatalities were a Malaysian and a Myanmar national.
The Malaysian, 60, was admitted to Kuala Lumur Hospital on March 30 and died on April 12. He was a diabetic and had high blood pressure.
Dr Noor Hisham said the 36-year-old Myanmar national was admitted to Selayang Hospital after coming in with Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) yesterday. He died that same day at 10am. – April 18, 2020.
