A TEAM of Chinese medical experts arrived in Malaysia today to help the country fight the Covid-19 pandemic, China’s Xinhua news agency reported.

The eight-member team was received by Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia Bai Tian and officials from Malaysia’s Health Ministry upon their arrival at Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

During the expert team’s two-week stay in Malaysia, they will share experience and expertise on fighting Covid-19 with their Malaysian counterparts, said the Chinese ambassador.

“This is the time when governments and the people of China and Malaysia work together and look after each other to overcome the difficulties.

“It also demonstrates the deep and warm relationship between China and Malaysia,” Bai added.

At his daily media briefing today, Director-General of Health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the team is from the National Health Commission in Guangzhou.

“We had some teleconferencing but they are here to share their expertise from Hubei and exchange data.

“There are (in the team) experts in infectious disease and data analysis.”

He said Malaysia has examined the genetic material of virus found in Malaysia and will share that information with the Chinese experts.

“The first wave virus was from Wuhan, from patients 5 and 19.”

To date, researchers have classified the virus into three strains – A, B and C.

Strain A is found mostly in the United States, B in China and C in Europe. – April 18, 2020.
