Recoveries exceed new Covid-19 cases, says Noor Hisham

WITH 119 patients discharged from hospital, the number of Covid-19 recoveries reported as of noon today has exceeded the number of new cases, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The director-general of health said this brings the number of recoveries to 2,766, which translates to 53.4% of the total number of cases reported. 

He said 110 new cases were reported as of 12pm today, bringing the total infections to 5,182. 

One death was recorded today, bringing the death toll to 84.

The deceased was a 66-year old man with a history of chronic illness, such as heart disease and high blood pressure.

He was treated at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital and was pronounced dead at 12.55pm yesterday.

Dr Noor Hisham said 62.6% of the fatalities involved senior citizens aged above 60. 

About 80.7% of these deaths were among those with a history of chronic illnesses including diabetes, high blood pressure, as well as kidney and heart diseases.

Currently, 56 Covid-19 patients are warded at the intensive care unit, with 29 requiring respiratory support.

As for Masjid India, which was put under enhanced movement-control order recently, Dr Noor Hisham said 558 have been screened, with one testing positive. – April 16, 2020.
