ALL government backbenchers will get posts in government-linked companies (GLCs) and agencies, said law minister Takiyuddin Hassan.

The minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (laws and parliament) said he was informed that all Perikatan Nasional MPs will be given positions.

“PAS has 18 MPs, eight have been appointed as ministers and deputy ministers, one as a special envoy to the Middle East.

“Nine remain and thank god all government MPs will be given a chance to play a role in GLCs.

“They are all qualified, they are parliamentarians,” Takiyuddin was reported as saying in Malaysiakini.

PAS secretary general had said this at Kompleks Kota Darulnaim Kota Baru today.

Takiyuddin earlier chaired a meeting to distribute aid from the Social Welfare Department for Kelantan parliamentarians.

Takiyuddin, who is also the Kota Baru MP, said this when asked to comment on political appointments, in particular PAS’ leaders to federal agencies.

It was reported that Pasir Mas MP Ahmad Fadhli Shaari has been appointed director of Skills Development Fund Corporation.

The fund is under the Human Resources Ministry and is tasked with offering school-leavers loans for skills training

Takiyuddin said each position would depend on the law of the governing each ministry.

He said there were agencies or GLCs whose chairmanship was appointed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and there were also appointments made by the relevant ministers.

“But for coordination, all proposals for the appointment of the chairman of GLC must be approved by the prime minister,” he said.

In recent weeks, Pakatan Harapan government appointees have been replaced by PN. – April 12, 2020.

  • This is being done to ensure that nobody jumps back to Tun's camp and PH. It confirms that the PN majority in the Dewan Rakyat is razor thin. Probably between 112 and 114 only.

  • Back to the good old days of politicians and their cronies on GLCS and state own enterprises. I wonder what silk be the long term impact on the performance of these organizations. Foreign investors will be voting with their feet.

  • Appointment must be based on caliber please, not because they are backbenchers.

  • They are all qualified, they are parliamentarians, Takiyuddin was reported as saying in Malaysiakini.

The fact they are government parliamentarians means the more reason they should not be heading GLCs, It is basically a backdoor government way in plundering the countrys coffers.

  • They are now twisting Muhyddins arms for power and positions. He will be played like a puppet on a string.

  • I recall a certain top politician, now a backbencher of a not very big pekan constituency, who headed a certain sovereign wealth fund, that's as GLC as you can get. And look at how that turned out. Nice.

  • What merits a parliamentarian to head a GLC? One thing for certain they cant lead as they are dont have the fundamental knowledge and workings of the industry. A pure rubber stamp Chairman taking care the interest for the corridors of power. That is why time and time again public funds are required to bail these fail GLC. Can the government ensure us the RAKYAT that no such bail out will ever be taken out from the public fund?? If you cant answer and commit to this than its obviously its not to the best interest for the RAKYAT that you claim to be.
