32-case spike in Selangor Mansion, says Noor Hisham

THIRTY-TWO Covid-19 infections have been detected in Selangor Mansion in the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 75 in the downtown Kuala Lumpur residential building, said Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah today.

He said there was one new case in the nearby City One Plaza, while the number of cases in Malayan Mansion remains at four.

“In Menara City One, there is one new case. That place recorded one death, involving a Pakistani.

“In Malayan Mansion, the case remains at four but in Selangor Mansion, there are 32 new cases, bringing the total to 75 in that particular flat.

The three apartment buildings in the Masjid India district of the capital are under an enhanced movement control order following the detection of Covid-19 cases there.

The residents are mainly from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Dr Noor Hisham today announced there were 153 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, including three new deaths.

The total number of cases now stands at 4,683, with the death toll being 76.

In the areas under enhanced movement control, Dr Noor Hisham said there were 10 new cases in Kluang, nine in Hulu Langat, and 33 in the Menara City One and Selangor Mansion buildings in Jalan Masjid India. 

The Selangor Mansion and Malayan Mansion are the fourth area to be locked down since the movement control order came into force on March 18.

Simpang Renggam is Johor was the first, on March 27, followed by Sungai Lui in Selangor on March 30 and Menara City One in Kuala Lumpur on March 31. 

In these areas, basic supplies are provided by the government for the residents, who are confined to their homes while the health authorities carry out case detection among the communities. – April 12, 2020.
