MALAYSIA registered 184 new Covid-19 infections today, the highest number of new cases in a day since April 3, when there were 217 new cases.

The new cases bring the total number of infections to 4,530, Director-General of Health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today.

Today’s spike ended a three-day run of recoveries exceeding new infections. 

There were 165 recoveries in the last 24 hours, bringing the total recovered to 1,995, or 44% of the infected.

Three patients died, taking death toll to 73 and putting the fatality rate at 1.61%. 

One death was of a 66-year-old man with diabetes, high blood pressure and gout, who died at the Tuanku Ja’afar in Negri Sembilan at 12.05pm today. He was hospitalised on April 1, after being infected by a patient from the Sri Petaling tabligh cluster.

The second fatality was a 71-year-old man with diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease, who died at the Sungai Buloh Hospital at 11.15am today. He was warded on March 15.

The third to die was a 63-year man with high blood pressure, who died at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh at noon today. He was warded on March 25. 

Minus deaths and recoveries, there are 2,462 active Covid-19 cases which are receiving treatment in isolation, said Dr Noor Hisham. 

He said 72 patients are in intensive care, 38 of them on respirators. – April 11, 2020.
