THE homeless being sheltered by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) during the movement-control order (MCO) period will be given work at a factory or to beautify the city, said Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa.

“Around 400 will be placed in a factory, which does not require much skills, while a DBKL contractor will take another 100.

“Those who cannot work will be sent to the Social Welfare Department, or various welfare and nursing homes,” he said at a daily briefing broadcast on Facebook today.

Last week, Annuar said that the homeless, who are now being housed at six shelters, will be given work.

“It is not just a plan. It is being done and we have already reached an understanding with a Selangor company to help DBKL beautify the city. They will do work that is appropriate and be placed in a hostel.

“We are now using this MCO period to prepare the place and hopefully they can begin their new life after the MCO,” said the Ketereh MP.

He said there are currently 566 people at the shelters, of which 488 are Malaysians while 78 are foreigners.
