42% of Covid-19 victims have recovered, says Noor Hisham

A TOTAL of 42.1% of those infected with Covid-19 have recovered, said Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

He said out the 4,346 people who have been infected to date, 1,830 have been discharged as of noon today.

The fatality rate from the coronavirus was reported to be 1.61%. Three more deaths were reported today, bringing the death toll to 70.

Some 4.9% of current Covid-19 patients are in intensive care units.

Dr Noor Hisham said “about 30% to 40%” of ICU patients have been discharged from the hospital, with the rest transferred to regular wards.

About 40% of all Covid-19 infections, or 1,720 cases, have been traced to the three-day tabligh gathering at the Sri Petaling mosque held from February 27 to March 1.

The results of 2,620 cases linked to the tabligh cluster are still pending. The health ministry have taken 22,516 samples so far, with 18,176 returning negative.

A total of 118 new Covid-19 cases were reported over the last 24 hours, bringing the tally to 4,346, while 222 patients were discharged in the same period, taking the total number of recoveries to 1,830.

This is the third day in a row the number of patients discharged exceeded the number of new cases. Three deaths were also reported today, taking the toll to 70.

Meanwhile, Noor Hisham said a medical team from China will arrive in two weeks to view the performance of hospitals here.

“They are not here to run our services. They are here to visit us and share their experiences of what they have been through in terms of public health and tests.

“Some of the initiatives they have done are unprecedented. We want to learn from them and they can learn from us too.”
