THE 800 homeless people who are currently housed in City Hall shelters will be given job opportunities when the movement control order (MCO) is lifted, said Annuar Musa today.

The federal territories minister said they will be screened and take a specialised training course for them to be employed either in the private sector or City Hall (DBKL).

“Once the MCO ends, we will not allow them to be homeless again.

“What will be done for all of them is that all of the about 800 people will go through a screening process as well as a form of specialised training course.

“For those who are physically fit and are able to work, we will provide job opportunities as operators in factories or as general workers in DBKL,” he said in a press conference broadcast on Facebook today.

Annuar said several companies have agreed to provide up to 700 jobs for the homeless.

Through collaboration with DBKL, jobs will be matched to the interests of those at the shelters.

“Those who want to work as a production operator, they would get a starting pay of RM1,400 together with some allowance, and those who want to work with DBKL, they would earn a daily wage that can amount to between RM1,200 to RM1,400 monthly,” Annuar said.

DBKL is also looking at providing a hostel for the homeless who secure jobs after they obtain work.

If there is no further extension to the MCO which now ends on April 28, Annuar said those in the shelter could begin their new jobs as early as May 1.

Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin today announced that the MCO will be extended a further two weeks from April 14 until April 28. – April 10, 2020.
