KUALA Lumpur City Hall has distributied more than RM5 million in cash aid to needy residents and small business operators, said Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa.
He said the financial aid came from the cabinet-approved Wilayah Cakna initiative and the Bantuan Prihatin Nasional package.
DBKL is handing cash directly or via electronic transfer.
“We’ve started making door-to-door cash distribution in Seri Johor public housing a few days ago (from April 6 to 8), where out of 2,343 housing units, we have successfully delivered approximately 75% or 1,753 units, an amount totaling RM175,000.
“There are around 590 units there that we failed to hand over the cash because either the owner was not at home or no one was living in the unit.
“From April 4 until 15, we will be doing transfers by electronic transfer. To date, we have electronically transferred to 6,699 people, or RM699,900,” he said in a press conference broadcast on Facebook.
Annuar had earlier said that about 100,000 people would benefit from the Wilayah Cakna initiative involving a RM100 million allocation.
He said the sum will go towards buying food and essential goods, a six-month rent exemption, and cash aid for the urban poor, small traders and hawkers.
On the one-off payment of RM500 to traders and hawkers, Annuar said that almost RM4.4 million has been credited to hawkers licensed under DBKL.
“I acknowledge that out of our 17,000 target, we have delivered the donations to 10,621 people (RM4.4 million) who have hawker license under DBKL,” he said.
Annuar said those who have not been paid by DBKL can contact them and make sure their data is completed with all relevant information for the funds to be debited. – April 10, 2020.
