SOME Menara City One residents had attended the tabligh event at the Sri Petaling mosque earlier this month, according to the Health Ministry.

Its director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 17 Covid-19 positive cases were detected at the condominium in Kuala Lumpur.

“The index case infected the family members living at three apartments, involving 12 people.

“Because of the sudden increase we have initiated a lockdown on the building,” he said at the daily press conference in Putrajaya today.

He said the ministry is currently taking samples from the residents in the condominium.

The condominium is the first high-rise to come under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) in the capital.

Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said following the ministry’s advice, the government has decided to impose the EMCO on the condominium.

He said the EMCO at the complex on Jalan Munshi Abdullah will involve 3,200 residents in 502 units, effective from March 31 to April 13.

Noor Hisham said medical officers have started screening residents in Menara City One from last night.

“We are making sure all apartments are screened, we started last night in stages, not in one go,” he added.

“This is what we are trying to do. We are looking into all areas and are making sure we investigate every apartment if need be.” – March 31, 2020.
