SEVENTEEN Covid-19 cases in Menara City One have prompted a lockdown of the condominium in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, as authorities attempt to mitigate the spread of the virus.

The condominium, which was built by UDA Holdings in 1997, is also the first high-rise to come under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) in capital.

“Following the advice of the Ministry of Health, the government has decided to impose the third EMCO,” said Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob in a statement this evening.

He said the EMCO at the complex on Jalan Munshi Abdullah will involve 3,200 residents in 502 units, effective from March 31 to April 13.

Menara City One is described as a luxury condominium offering a full range of facilities such as badminton, basketball and tennis courts and a gymnasium.

The 30-storey building is within walking distance of the Bandaraya and Dang Wangi LRT stations.

The building is also within walking distance to the Sogo department store, Pertama Complex and Quill City Mall.

On Sunday, following the detection of 71 new Covid-19 cases in the area, the government also imposed the EMCO on seven villages in Hulu Langat.

On March 24, the government enforced the first EMCO in Simpang Renggam, Johor, after discovering a sudden spike in Covid-19 cases. – March 30, 2020.
