Zoo Negara needs urgent donations

THE movement control order (MCO), which took effect on March 18, has also affected Zoo Negara, which has been forced to dip into its emergency fund to cover operating costs due to a lack of donations and ticket sales.

Zoo Negara deputy president Rosly@Rahmat Ahmat Lana said all the animals in the zoo, however, are healthy and in good shape.

“It is a big challenge for us to cover the zoo’s operating costs during this temporary closure as Zoo Negara relies on ticket sales, space rentals, corporate sponsorships and public donations for income,” he said yesterday

Rosly said no organisation has come forward to lend aid to Zoo Negara.

The emergency fund was created by the management of the Malaysian Zoological Society (MSZ) for such unforeseen circumstances.

According to Rosly, the fund was only sufficient to sustain operations for three months.

“We have enough food supply for now as appointed contractors still deliver supplies.

“For those who wanted to donate, they can do so by participating in our Adopt An Animal campaign,” he said.
