THE Registrar of Societies (RoS) will take action against those who try to defame the organisation by manipulating the issues between Bersatu and Armada, said its director-general Surayati Ibrahim.

Surayati said Bersatu had violated its own constitution by allowing Armada to operate without amending its constitution.

“The party also has yet to hold its first annual general meeting,” she said

Surayati said those who made negative comments about RoS should first look through the Bersatu constitution registered with RoS.

“If the accusation continues, I will not hesitate to take legal course against the culprit,” she said at a press conference held at RoS headquarters in Putrajaya this evening.

Earlier Suraya said that the word “Armada” does not exist in Bersatu constitution. The only word there was Youth.

“Bersatu also has yet to fulfill RoS requirement for the party to hold an annual general meeting  within a year it was registered,” said Surayati.

She said both were grave offences that could lead to the party’s deregistration.

“The Bersatu leadership should know that violating the party constitution and the law is a serious offence. It happened before in 1988 when Umno was banned for going against its party constitution and the Registrar Act,” she said.

Although RoS has received an application to postpone the AGM, it however found no provision in the party constitution that allow for the AGM to be postponed.

“We hope that the public realise the importance of party leadership. Any organisation registered in Malaysia, including political parties in general, and Bersatu, specifically did their own registration and submitted it to RoS for approval.

“It is a responsibility of the party leadership to administer the party accordingly. In this case, Bersatu has allowed its youth wing named ‘Armada’ to operate even before the amendment to the constitution has been approved by RoS,” she said.

Two days ago, Bersatu chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the party’s failure to hold annual general meetings (AGM) at the division, branch and central levels was due to the party’s incomplete organisational structure.

He said the party’s branches and divisions have yet to hold meetings at their respective levels despite having many members.

“To have an AGM, we need to have meetings at the branch and division levels but although there are many members, they haven’t organised meetings yet.

“Even some divisions are not properly organised yet, so we can’t determine who will attend the AGM if we hold one,” he said during a press conference at the Parliament building on Wednesday.

He revealed that the branches were the most disorganised sections of the party, which was founded in September last year.

Surayati, when asked about the registration of Pakatan Harapan, declined to comment.

She also said she had yet to receive any reports about DAP’s central executive committee re-election on November 12.

DAP held re-elected its CEC on November 12 after RoS sent a letter to them on July 17, instructing the party to conduct fresh polls as it did not acknowledge both the results of December 15, 2012’s election and the subsequent re-election on September 29, 2013. – November 17, 2017.
