PERIKATAN Nasional has reallocated RM100,000 each to all opposition-held parliamentary constituencies, said several MPs.

“Yes, we have been told this constituency funding of RM100,000 is to last us the whole year,” Segambut’s Hannah Yeoh told The Malaysian Insight.

A lawmaker from Johor confirmed receiving a message from the district office on Friday saying the federal government has approved a special allocation of RM100,000 for their constituency.

“Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has approved an allocation of RM100,000 for each non-government constituency.

“Applications for this allocation are to be made through the e-Khas system and subject to existing guidelines,” said the message seen by The Malaysian Insight.

Also on Friday, former youth and sports minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman tweeted his thanks to Muhyiddin for the allocation.

“Thank you for the special Covid-19 allocation for the Muar constituency. I will ensure that all the funds are used for Muar constituents as their welfare is my responsibility.”

Two other lawmakers who were also informed about the funding said they are unsure if it is a one-time payment to help mitigate the impact of the virus or an annual allocation.

The previous Pakatan Harapan administration had allocated RM1.5 million to government-held seats for this year.

Less than a month after taking over, PN withdrew constituency funding for all opposition MPs.

Syed Saddiq, who is Bersatu youth chief, and Bersatu chairman and former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who holds the Langkawi seat, were also affected.

Although the two are from a government party, they did not support Muhyiddin for the prime minister’s post in last month’s political imbroglio.

The PH administration collapsed after Bersatu president Muhyiddin withdrew the party from the coalition. With the backing of Barisan Nasional, PAS and Gabungan Parti Sarawak, he had enough support to get the top job.

Since it came to power on March 1, PN has also terminated the services of PH appointees in government agencies and the Residents’ Community Council in federal constituencies. – March 29, 2020.
