Malaysia chosen as WHO test site for possible Covid-19 drug

THE World Health Organisation has chosen Malaysia for research and data collection on a possible treatment for Covid-19 infections, Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today.

“We will carry out research on a new medicine to be used for treatment in Covid-19 patients,” he said in Putrajaya today. 

“This research will be carried out at Sg Buloh Hospital and other hospitals identified as Covid-19 centres. 

“Malaysia will be included as one of the sites for data collection and treatment for infected patients with this new medicine.” 

The WHO and Health Ministry officials will hold a meeting tonight on the matter, Dr Noor Hisham added.

The ministry today reported two more deaths from the coronavirus, bringing the total number of fatalities to 26 as of today.

Malaysia also recorded 130 new cases as of noon today, bringing the total number of cases to 2,161.

A total of 259 cases, however, have recovered and been discharged from hospital. – March 27, 2020.
