TODAY’S 88 positive Covid-19 cases in Kluang, Johor, could be related to the Seri Petaling Mosque tabligh cluster, which accounts for more than half of Malaysia’s cases, the Health Ministry said today.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said it was currently conducting investigations and added there could be four clusters connnected to the tabligh.

“There are four cases that were present at the Sri Petaling event.

“They could have gone back to their village and attended a wedding, and infected the residents in that area,” he said in Putrajaya today.

Dr Noor Hisham said there were 88 cases in total in Kluang, with 74 from Kg Dato Ibrahim Majid and Bandar Baharu Dato Ibrahim Majid in Simpang Renggam.

Putrajaya has locked down these two areas as the Health Ministry started conducting 300 tests daily to stop the spread of the virus.

Dr Noor Hisham said the enhanced movement control order in place at both areas will allow the health team to conduct active case detection from house to house.

On the tabligh cluster, Dr Noor Hisham said 13,762 people have been screened.

“We took 12,317 samples and, out of the total, there were 1,137 positive cases and 6,623 negative cases.

“Pending cases are 4,557.”

Last night, the government imposed an enhanced MCO on Kg Datuk Ibrahim Majid and Bandar Baru Ibrahim Majid after they recorded 61 cases of the virus.

The lockdown affects 3,570 people from 650 families.

The localised breakdown has been traced to a wedding that took place on March 15.

Under the enhanced MCO, residents are not allowed out of the two areas and outsiders are barred from entering. – March 27, 2020.
