Malaysia to lose 2.4 million jobs in recession due to Covid-19

A think-tank has predicted a loss of 2.4 million jobs, brought about by an impending recession due to the Covid-19 pandemic. – The Malaysian Insight pic by Afif Abd Halim, March 25, 2020.

ABOUT 2.4 million jobs are expected to be lost in the impending economic recession created by the coronavirus pandemic in the country, said the Malaysian Institute of Economic Research (Mier).

About 67% of these jobs are unskilled and they mostly involve workers who do not earn a monthly salary, said Mier in its latest study on the impact of the Covid-19 outbreak and the movement control order (MCO).
