A MORE comprehensive economic stimulus package to fight the impact of Covid-19 will be announced on March 30, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said.
He said the package will not neglect small businesses and low-income earners
“Comprehensive measures are being studied by the Finance Ministry and will take into account every group in society.
“Whether you are a small business owner, taxi driver, farmer, fishermen, livestock breeder, factory worker, private sector worker or civil servants, everyone will be given attention,” he said in a live telecast after chairing the Economic Action Council’s weekly meeting.
Muhyiddin announced today announced two measures to immediately increase the people’s disposable income.
The first allows Employees Provident Fund contributors aged below 55 withdraw up to RM500 monthly for a period of 12 months from Account 2.
The second allows graduates with National Higher Education Fund (PTPTN) loans to defer repayment for six months, until September.
He also announced more money for the Health Ministry to purchase equipment and strengthen frontline workers to fight Covid-19.
Malaysia is in its sixth day of a two-week movement control order that ends on March 31.
People are not to leave their homes except to buy food and essential items or for medical emergencies.
The country has recorded 11 coronavirus deaths and 1,306 infections to date. – March 23, 2020.
