10 deaths now, 123 new Covid-19 cases today

The Health Ministry has confirmed another death from Covid-19, bringing the national tally to 10, while another 123 new cases have been reported as the overall number climbs above 1,300. – The Malaysian Insight pic by Najjua Zulkefli, March 22, 2020.

ANOTHER death from Covid-19 has been reported by the Health Ministry, bringing the number of fatalities to 10.

Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the latest case was a 74-year-old Malaysian man from the tabligh cluster.

The man, identified as patient 259, was admitted to the Penang General Hospital on March 13.

“He was pronounced dead at 4.05pm today,” said Noor Hisham at a press conference today.

As of 12pm today, an additional 123 cases of Covid-19 have been reported, bringing the total number of cases to 1,306.

Noor Hisham said 74 of the new cases have been traced to the tabligh gathering in Kuala Lumpur, while 49 others are from different clusters that are still being investigated.

There are currently 46 Covid-19 cases being treated at intensive care units, with 22 patients requiring breathing support.

As of today, 460 healthcare staffers been screened for Covid-19, of which 70 tested negative and 190 are awaiting test results.

A medical doctor became the country’s first healthcare provider to succumb to the deadly coronavirus earlier today. 

The victim was admitted to Hospital Tuanku Fauziah in Kangar, Perlis, and had recently travelled to Turkey. – March 22, 2020.
