SIX policemen on the front lines of the Covid-19 battle have tested positive for the deadly virus, said Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador.

Hamid said another 335 policemen, including their families, are currently under observation and awaiting test results.

“This is the risk police officers take while performing their duties,” he said in a live interview with Astro Awani today.

Hamid said that, based on Health Ministry information, no one should underestimate the current virus outbreak and that it clearly poses a danger to the people.

He said knowing the danger, people should stay at home and refrain from going out during the movement control order period.

“Based on information from the Health Ministry, it is very clear that this danger is not something that was cooked up, an invention or any form of acting. It can infect anyone.

“So, I hope the ministry will continue to give information explaining the dangers that exist in the hopes that the people and public can understand,” he said.

Malaysia had imposed a two-week movement control order on March 18 to curb the spread of Covid-19.

As some Malaysians persisted in flouting the guidelines, the government announced that the army will be deployed, starting Sunday, to help police enforce the order.

To date, the virus has killed six Malaysians and infected 1,183 others. – March 21, 2020.
