THE National Security Council (NSC) hotline that is supposed to help provide information on the movement control order (MCO) does not seem to be working despite assurances from Putrajaya.

Attempts by The Malaysian Insight to call in have proven unsuccessful.

The Malaysian Insight started calling the NSC hotline at 03-8888 2010 from 11am to 4pm but they went unanswered.

Previously, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin in a national address assured the public to inquire about the control order via the hotline.

The Malaysian Insight has also received public complaints regarding the matter where many have expressed disappointment as they were unable to get through.

Likewise, hotlines to several ministries also went unanswered.

Putrajaya’s main hotline at 03-8000 8000 did not yield results.

The Malaysian Insight was asked to leave a voice message at one point and in another attempt, the line was cut off.

The only responding ministry was Plantation Industries and Commodities. However, the operator was unable to provide answers when asked.

“I am just working at the front desk. I cannot provide any answers. The people behind the hotlines did not come to work because of the control order,” he said.

Asked if he received many calls today, the man admitted that many had contacted the ministry after a hotline was set up for the public.

“I got so many calls asking me about the situation but I cannot provide them with anything. I know a hotline is set up but there is no one working.”

An image of the hotline set up by the ministry has been made public and has been widely shared online.

Talian Hotline MPIC stated that calls can be made from Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

Malaysia has imposed the two-week control order on March 18 as part of efforts to contain the coronavirus disease.

The order was issued by Muhyiddin on Monday in an effort to reduce the number of people infected with Covid-19.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah yesterday disclosed that a total of 15 healthcare workers have contracted the Covid-19 virus.

In a Facebook post, he said 12 are from the public healthcare sector while three others are from the private sector.

As of yesterday, Malaysia has recorded 1,030 Covid-19 cases with three fatalities. – March 21, 2020.
