FOOD trucks in the capital will stop operating from today as they have been drawing large crowds, which defeats the aims of the movement control order, said Annuar Musa.

The Federal Territories minister said that, at first, it was agreed that food trucks could operate as long as people takeaway the food, but they have been congregating in large numbers.

“Based on our observations, food trucks are congregating at certain areas in Kuala Lumpur in large numbers.

“Sometimes, about 30 to 40 trucks gather, attracting large crowds, and this defeats the purpose of the partial lockdown,” he said at the Federal Territories National Security Council meeting in Kuala Lumpur today.

City Hall said that there are about 300 food trucks operating in he city.

Annuar said that they had meet food trucks vendors, who had agreed to stop operating until the movement control order expires on March 31.

“They have agreed to cease operations temporarily until this issue has passed.”

The government’s movement control order came into effect on Wednesday to curb the spread of the coronavirus, which has so far infected 900 people in Malaysia and caused two deaths.

Worldwide, there have been 242,300 infections with a death toll of 9,857. – March 20, 2020.
