CIVIL society groups will continue to hold candlelight vigils for four missing people at Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur, until they are found.

Engage chairman Thomas Fann said the groups are planning to organise a vigil each month until there is closure for the families.

“We are not only going to have the vigil in Dataran Merdeka but every week in other states until there is a breakthrough,” he said.

The four are Pastor Raymond Koh, who has been missing for 75 days, Pastor Joshua Hilmy and wife, Ruth (150 days) and activist Amri Che Mat (156 days).

The event was organised by Suara Rakyat Malaysia (Suaram), however, because of the rain only a few volunteers turned up.

Fann said they were unfazed over the low turnout and will continue to seek for the truth.

“What we want to know is why hasn’t there been any breakthrough in the cases? Could there be a vigilante group operating within our country that can boldly take Koh in broad daylight and are able to escape detection?

“The police should be concerned that such a group exists because it has been months and there is no progress.”

Fann said, as citizens, they are concerned and urged the police to be more vigilant.

“We hope that the families would not lose hope.”

Suaram executive director Sevan Doraisamy said police should look into getting experts to help conduct the investigations.

“Is has been a long time since the four have gone missing. The police also have not updated the public. Is this group smarter than the police?

“If the police need more expertise then they should get it from other countries. If they are getting assistance then where are the updates?”

On the morning of February 13, Koh was abducted from his vehicle while he was travelling along Jalan SS4B/10, Petaling Jaya.

The incident was captured by CCTV, which showed 15 men in three black SUVs carrying out the abduction that took a matter of seconds.

Koh’s car, a silver Honda Accord with the registration number ST 5515D, is still missing.

Hilmy’s disappearance was first highlighted in an Australian website, xyz.net.au, on February 23, 10 days after Koh’s abduction.

It was reported that the pastor of Malay descent, who was also a former Muslim, went missing on November 30, 2016.

Meanwhile, Amir a social activist, was part of the 1997 Mount Everest Malaysian expedition team. He went missing on the night of November 24, 2016, after he reportedly told his eldest daughter that he was going out. – April 29, 2017.
