MALAYSIA Airports Holdings Bhd has issued a list of frequently asked questions on air travel during the two-week movement-control order (MCO) against Covid-19, which took effect yesterday.

1. Will airports stay open?

Yes, under the MCO, airports are categorised as an essential service, so all our airports will continue to operate.

2. Are flights affected?

Currently, there are no restrictions on both international and domestic flight operations. Any decision to cancel flights will be at the discretion of airline companies. Passengers are advised to check with airlines on their flight schedules.

3. Who is allowed to fly out of Malaysia?

• Malaysian citizens and permanent residents (PRs) are not allowed to travel abroad for holidays during this period;

• Malaysian diplomats serving abroad are allowed to leave the country;

• Malaysian citizens and PRs holding a work permit from a third country who wish to return to their place of work will be allowed to do so, but may not re-enter before March 31. They will be required to produce the necessary documents at the point of departure; and,

• All foreign visitors are allowed to leave the country and shall not enter until further notice.

4. Who is allowed to fly into Malaysia?

• Malaysian citizens and PRs can return to Malaysia from abroad during this period;

• The spouse and children of citizens holding long-term passes are allowed to enter the country;

• Foreign diplomats serving in Malaysia are allowed to enter. Their families are allowed to enter provided that they hold a dependent pass; and,

• Holders of expatriate, student, dependent, temporary work and Malaysia My Second Home passes are not allowed to enter. If your pass expires while you are abroad, you will be allowed to enter only after the MCO is lifted.

Please note that all entries into Malaysia will have to undergo health screenings at the point of entry, and subsequently, self-quarantine for 14 days.

Airline and cargo crews, including those for private jets, are required to undergo health screenings before immigration clearance.

5. Will international passengers be able to transit?

Transit and connecting flight passengers who do not require immigration clearance are allowed to board their flights. They need to check with airlines to ensure that their checked-in luggage is transferred to the connecting flights to reach their final destination.

Please note that inter-terminal (Kuala Lumpur International Airport-klia2 or klia2-KLIA) transit is not possible during this period.

6. Can Malaysians or foreigners in the peninsula fly to Sabah/Sarawak, and vice versa?

No, Malaysians and foreign visitors who are currently in Malaysia are not allowed to fly from the peninsula to East Malaysia, and vice versa.

However, for Sabahans and Sarawakians already in the peninsula prior to the MCO’s implementation and wish to return to their respective states, they are allowed to do so. They are required to show their flight ticket and MyKad or passport to clear immigration. The same applies to those from the peninsula who are in Sabah or Sarawak and wish to return to the peninsula.

7. Are shops, services and eateries at airports open?

Under the MCO, only pharmacies, supermarkets and convenience stores selling essential items are allowed to open at airports. While dine-in is not allowed at eateries, you may order takeaways.

8. Can I get to the airport using public transport?

Under the MCO, transport services are categorised as essential services, so all public transport services to and from the airport are available. However, their operation frequency may be reduced. – March 19, 2020.
