A CARICATURE of Rosmah Mansor by Zunar makes a brief appearance on the Netflix documentary series Dirty Money, much to the Malaysian cartoonist’s delight.

“My cartoon on the wife of the ex-prime minister of Malaysia is showing on Netflix now.

“My ‘love’ is back! Welcome back, my muse! Please inspire me more,” said the artist, whose real name is Zulkiflee Anwar Alhaque, in a message to The Malaysian Insight.

Zunar has often described Rosmah as his muse, with much of his work at the height of the 1Malaysia Development Bhd scandal focused on her.

The second episode of Dirty Money’s second season is about former prime minister Najib Razak’s involvement in the 1MDB fraud. Season two premiered on March 11.

The episode, titled “Man at the Top”, traces the beginnings of the scandal to 1MDB’s joint venture with PetroSaudi International. It also looks at Rosmah and wanted Penang-born businessman Low Taek Jho’s lavish spending habits.

Najib is filmed explaining his wife’s purchases and their allegedly opulent lifestyle, which he said is just a matter of “perception”.

Zunar’s caricature of Rosmah that appears in the documentary shows her wearing a huge pink diamond ring and a matching diamond necklace, and toting a Birkin bag – a reference to the US$27 million (RM118 million) 22-carat gem bought for her using purportedly swindled 1MDB funds and the costly designer handbags she is often seen carrying. – March 18, 2020.
