PUTRAJAYA must channel complete and accurate information to the media so that there is no confusion or panic among Malaysians, said Anwar Ibrahim.

The PKR president said the government must be responsible when sharing information.

He was referring to the public uncertainty that arose following the announcement on Monday night of a movement-control order to curb the spread of Covid-19.

“The problem that we face now is caused by poor coordination and a weak government machinery when it comes to the flow of information.

“I urge the government to sort out this problem swiftly and to be more responsible and ethical at this time,” he said in a statement today.

The media, being the people’s main source of information, must be given proper access, he added.

Conflicting and inaccurate information on the movement-control order, which takes effect today until March 31, had sparked confusion.

Last night, police lifted interstate travel restrictions mere hours after announcing them when thousands of people thronged stations to fill out forms ahead of their journey.

Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador said the force will issue a new ruling after a meeting today. – March 18, 2020.
