WATER utility companies have assured that consumers will have continuous supply during the two-week movement-control order enforcement period, which begins today.

Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd corporate communications head Abdul Halim Mat Som said its operations, especially in key areas like treatment and distribution, will carry on as usual.

“Air Selangor would like to assure its customers in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya that clean water will reach their homes,” he said in a statement.

Customers are encouraged to conduct transactions online so as to reduce the risk of catching or spreading Covid-19, he said.

Halim added that supply to the Klang area, which was disrupted yesterday due to pollution detected in Sg Selangor, is expected to be fully restored by 6pm today.

“Air Selangor has mobilised tanker lorries to areas still affected (by the disruption). For consumers who have received supply, they are advised to use water prudently to facilitate the process of restoring supply to other areas.”

Supply to Kuala Selangor was fully restored about 7am.

Three treatment plants were yesterday forced to halt operations after the pollution was discovered.

In Penang, Perbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang Sdn Bhd (PBAPP) chief executive Jaseni Maidinsa said staff will continue work as normal, and that all major water supply installations are fully operational to meet the state’s needs.

“PBAPP’s priority is to ensure that all registered residents and other important service premises in Penang have sufficient supply.”

However, he said, recreational areas, including the Air Itam Dam, Bukit Dumbar Recreational Park and Teluk Bahang Dam, will be temporarily closed.

In Negri Sembilan, Syarikat Air Negri Sembilan Sdn Bhd’s (Sains) services will continue as normal, said public relations head Norzita Ismail.

“All of the services offered, such as customer service counters, call centres, complaints and new applications, will proceed as normal except for the Sains counter at Seremban UTC, which will be closed during the movement-control period.”

To prevent the spread of the coronavirus, she said, the company will reduce face-to-face communications. – Bernama, March 18, 2020.
