BANDAR Kuching MP Kelvin Yii has tested positive for Covid-19, said Chong Chieng Jen.

The Sarawak DAP chairman said Yii is under quarantine at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) in Kuching after the state Health Department last night informed him about his test result.

Chong’s test, meanwhile, came back negative.

Both men got tested after coming into contact with Sarikei MP Wong Ling Biu, who has been confirmed infected, on March 2.

“He (Yii) is asymptomatic and in stable condition,” said Chong.

Since the lawmaker has not shown symptoms since the meeting, he said, the risk of Yii being infectious “is much lower”, according to a medical officer at the hospital.

The Stampin MP said the state Health Department is tracing individuals who have come into contact with Yii and the possible sources of his infection, apart from Wong.

As of 11am today, Sarawak recorded another eight coronavirus cases, bringing the state’s total to 42.

Of the new infections, five people have been admitted to SGH, Sibu Hospital (1) and Miri Hospital (2), said the state Disaster Management Committee.

It said 35 individuals have been declared patients under investigation. – March 17, 2020.
