THE Dang Wangi police want more information from former Petaling Jaya councillor Peter Chong Fook Meng on his alleged abduction in Hat Yai earlier this month.
Sources close to the investigations said they are still trying to verify Chong’s claims.
He told the officers that he could not remember the faces of his abductors nor name the hotel where he was allegedly held captive for three days before they drove him to Pattaya and released him, said the source.
The second interview with the police is expected to be held next week.
“Police wanted to meet him earlier but they were unable to contact or locate him. He has finally reached out to the police and they are setting a date to interview him again,” the source said.
Chong’s abduction came to light after he returned home 10 days after his disappearance on April 6. His disappearance had caused panic as it occurred barely two months after the sensational abduction of Pastor Raymond Koh in Petaling Jaya on February 13.
He was the fifth person who “disappeared” with social activists and organisations pressing for the authority to step up their game to solve the cases.
A special task force was set up to find Chong and the investigation carried out showed that he had taken a bus to Thailand several days after his disappearance.
Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar shared the information with the media. He said Chong’s case had wasted a lot of police man hours and resources.
Chong, however, stood by his words and said he was ready to return to Thailand to lodge a report on the case.
In a Facebook post days after his return, Chong said he will first lodged a report at the Thai embassy here and if the effort fails, he will return to Thailand to lodge a police report.
Police said they have not receive any information on whether Chong had made any reports with Thai embassy. – April 30, 2017.
